NHL Line Stats Miniumum Ice Time: The Best Offensive and Defensive Lines in the NHL. Miniumum Ice Time: 50 Minutes. Lines on a Hockey Rink. The Red Line: There is a hockey red line at each of the far ends of the rink. The line passes through the front of the goal, marking where the puck must cross to be counted as a goal as it goes into the net. This is also the line that notes where the puck crosses for icing to be called. And because hockey games are usually low scoring affairs, the Puck Line is a mixture of a point spread bet and a moneyline bet. The point spread is typically only 1.5 goals (-1.5 for favorites, +1.5 for underdogs) and then the odds are applied to determine the payout. This combination is the Puck Line. The 1.5 goals is a good median number.

Luckily for us, most sportsbooks give us a puckline, which is the same idea as a point spread in sports such as football and basketball. The difference, of course, is that scores in hockey are much lower and the spread is always set at 1.5. The underdog team can lose by one goal and still cover the puck line. NHL action sees many 3-2 and 4-3 games and shootouts in hockey, this can be profitable. You will also see a -135 or +180 value.

How to read Hockey Las Vegas Money Line Odds

When playing the moneyline, you pick either one team or the other. It's that easy!

If you are wagering on the National Hockey League and making moneyline bets, you'll either be pulling for the favorite or the underdog to earn the win in either regulation, overtime or a shootout. You do not need to worry about a team winning by a certain margin. It is simply a win outright, and that's it.

Nhl Puck Line Stats

Similar to our Puck-line and 1st Period Odds, every contest on the board shows the Odds, Date and Time of the National Hockey League contests on the slate.

Hockey will list Favorites and Underdogs for that day's slate of games. The Money Line Odds will list the favorite with a (-) symbol, while the underdogs will be shown with a (+) symbol. The majority of betting sites online, as well as the betting apps, will simply do the math for you. However, it is a rather easy equation based upon a $100 wager.

Edmonton -160 (Bet $100 to win $62.50)
Arizona +145 (Bet $100 to win $145)

In the example listed above, Edmonton is listed as the strong favorite (-), while Arizona is the underdog (+). If a bettor making a wager picked the Oilers, favored to win, they would return just $62.50 on a $100 wager at minus-160. Many books also offer fractional odds, and in this instance the Oilers would be listed as a 5/8 favorite. The decimal format, particularly popular overseas, is also sometimes offered. The Oilers would be listed at 1.625 on the big board.

With the Oilers listed as the favorite, the Coyotes are considered as the underdog. Bettors would receive a larger return on their initial stake with a victory. In the example above, a $100 winning wager on the Coyotes would fetch a total return of $245, which includes a $145 win and the original $100 stake. The fractional odds would be listed as 29/20, while the Coyotes would be shown at 2.45 with the decimal conversion.

According to The Boston Globe, a new puck with a tiny battery embedded, a circuit board around the size of half of a dollar, and six-inch-long tubes that let in infrared light at 60 pulses per second, is set to debut in the NHL this season.

Each puck will cost the league $40 to produce. This is part of the NHL unveiling its long-anticipated Puck and Player Tracking technology to get used for enhanced data collection and metrics, and the tidal wave of legalized sports betting that is on the way.

The puck will be six ounces, three inches wide, and one inch thick.

Players have told the Boston Globe that it feels the same on their sticks, fires just like the old version, and pings off the iron and rink boards with honest-to-Boom Boom Geoffrion auditory authenticity.

Because of the truncated season, the NHL logo will be the only one on the center of the pucks. Each team, including the Seattle Kraken who are set to make their debut in 2021-22, will have their logos on the pucks next season.

The critical tech element is the puck’s battery-powered infrared light and the beam necessary to a triangulation system that also has 16-18 cameras inside each arena. Every NHL player will also be outfitted with an infrared tag (which will be the size and shape of a pack of the game) slipped into the backs of their jerseys.

Other than cameras mounted in the top and elsewhere in the arena, all of the light beams and associated PPT technology will not be seen. All of the puck and player movement will be tracked, recorded, and all of the information streamed into a giant data punch bowl.

These pucks are manufactured in three stages across three sits: Soucy Baron (produces raw form puck), SMT, Inc. (puts battery, circuit boards, and light tubes in each puck), and Inglasco, Inc. (uses a silkscreening process to place logos on the center).

The paint applied by Inglasco turns purple when the pucks are chilled to the appropriate temperature for gameplay. If purple fades to a gray tone, it will be pulled from play. During games, pucks will be stored in a tiny freeze box at rinkside, alongside the official scorer’s position.

Once a puck is out of play, the arena tech crew will deactivate it from the PPT system and a new puck, with a unique embedded code, will be activated. The fan who goes home with the souvenir puck will just have a chunk of rubber, which will have a dead battery 4-6 hours later.
